I would be interest to hear from other owners on their battery life. I have just changed my batteries after 14 months of usage. I have been following the deep discharge procedure written by Independence Technology. I believe that we can do better than this. At this rate it is costing me $3 per day.
Is everyone doing their deep discharges? Does everyone know what I am talking about? I was doing mine once a month and I don't think that is enough. I am going to perform them bi-monthly on this new set. According to the battery manufacturer, we should get a minimum of 500 cycles out of these batteries. That is almost 17 months. I think with proper care, we could approach 1000 cycles. This would reduce the cost to $1.10 per day which is much easier to take.

It does sound like you should of gotten more out of the batteries. How long have you had your ibot? I drain my batteries once a month so I think I might change to twice I don't think this will do any harm to them. How did you know the batteries where going bad on you? I have had my bot for a year so just wondering.

I have had my iBot for two and a half years. I use it daily and I charge it every night. I can tell the batteries are on their way when they don't respond to the deep discharge cycle. In other words, I will start getting the low battery alarm with three or more bars remaining. This is the old voltage depression problem which is more commonly known as memory. I do two or three deep discharges in a row and they don't recover the lost capacity. The longest a set of batteries has lasted to my knowledge is 18 months. Do I hear 19???

I too do the monthly discharge. The first set of Batteries I had were defective and after 5 months I was getting the low warning at 5 bars (they replaced them on warrenty). I'm on 7 months on the current ones and looking good so far.

I had a similar experience to yours Tracy. Indy replaced two sets of batteries for me under warranty. They came out with a software update to take the batteries down to 1 volt per cell. My battery life went from 5 months to 14 months after that software update with doing deep discharges once a month. We should be getting at least 20 months out of our batteries according to the manufacturers data sheet. I still think they need to take them down even further. I would like to see 0.9 or 0.8 volts per cell.
I would urge everyone to deep discharge every two weeks. That is what I am doing with my new batteries. I know it is a pain but at $1100 per set, if we can get more life it is well worth it.
